The economy continues to expand, and with fourth quarter GDP growth likely trending towards 2%, fears of a recession continue to fade. Globally, central banks including the Federal Reserve are shifting towards more accommodative monetary policy.

The unemployment rate is near a fifty year low at 3.6% indicating we are near full employment. Wages continue to rise as the labor market shows signs of tightening and unemployment claims remain near historically low levels as well.

Five Ways to Give

Americans donated $292 billion to charitable causes last year. One reason for our generosity may be that giving makes us happy. In fact, in a recent study, scientists measured the brain activity of individuals who gave versus those who did not and identified a physical change in human brains that links giving with happiness.1

Cybersecurity Tips

Your inbox is, no doubt, inundated right now with messages from retailers about holiday deals, steals and great buys. However, we caution you to beware of ‘naughty’ phishing emails intermixed with the ‘nice.’ Phishing emails require one thing to be successful: for the recipient to take the bait. The decision tree (download below) is a helpful reminder that verifying unknown emails is an important step in protecting your data and devices.

2019 Promotions

Brant Appel was promoted to Director of Finance and Business Management, reflecting his on-going assimilation of finance department functional responsibilities and his significant contributions with our operating platform transition to HighTower.

David Bosak was promoted to the role of Advisor. He has earned the reputation of eMoney on-boarding specialist, gained dedicated client team responsibilities and continues to be integral in our Emerging Affluent and 401k client deliverables.

Michael Kalinoski was promoted to Senior Portfolio Manager. A valued member of the Investment Team, he has demonstrated initiative by streamlining and improving trading and investment processes and procedures.

Kristen Lucas was promoted to Chief Marketing Officer. She oversees all aspects of Fairport’s strategic marketing and communication efforts including social and traditional media, client and prospect events, community engagement, external and internal communication and niche markets’ plan development.

Advisor Peter DeVito was LIVEONLakeside! He joined Hollie Strano and Michael Estime in March to share important tax tips for widows.

Heather Ettinger was recognized by InvestmentNews as a 2019 Icons and Innovators honoree for her profound advancement of the financial advice profession and conception of new ideas that have propelled the industry forward. Heather received the award at the Innovation Summit and Awards Dinner in April in New York City. The half-day Summit included panel discussions, TED-style talks, and one-on-one interviews followed by an awards dinner. Surrounded by family, colleagues and friends, Heather’s acceptance remarks paid homage to her late father and touted the power of being “quirky.”

Crain’s Cleveland Business named Kristen Lucas as one of the 2019 Forty Under 40. This recognition honors young professionals who are engaged in helping others and bettering the community, through their jobs and in volunteer efforts. Kristen accepted her award (to the tune of Aretha Franklin’s RESPECT) at the November ceremony.

Rachel Margulis joined the PetFix Northeast Ohio board and was elected Treasurer. PetFix is a non-profit organization that offers high quality, affordable spay and neuter surgeries to prevent pet homelessness and the need for unnecessary euthanasia.

Michelle Taylor completed the program to become a Certified Wellness Practitioner through the National Wellness Institute. Michelle also joined the board of Put-in-Bay Yacht Club and was elected Trustee of Finance.
