The Power of Friendship
Best friends are priceless. They share our joy when times are good, provide a sympathetic ear when times are tough, and enrich our lives. After being physically separated for far too long during the pandemic, many are eager to reconnect in-person with close friends and rebuild their community.
Friendship is healthy
Studies show that connections with others offer many health benefits. For example, having positive social ties reduces damaging levels of stress that can impact your coronary arteries, insulin regulation, and immune system. In addition, good friends can boost your confidence and provide the motivation you need to take care of yourself. And, older adults with strong social networks have lower rates of depression, a slower rate of memory decline, and are likely to live longer.*
Friendship is easy
You may need to create new connections after a major life event, such as divorce, moving to a new city, or the loss of your spouse. Although it may have been easier to make friends when you were young, adults can make friends, too! To meet new people, sign up for a class, join a club, attend a Luma Wealth event or join our volunteer efforts. We are supporting the Greater Cleveland Food Bank as our Community Beacon this year, and you can sign up to help us box and distribute food to community members in need — making connections while helping others.
